Born in Boston in 1922, Charles Foster was a contemporary of Allen Ginsberg, Robert Duncan, and Lawrence Ferlinghetti. In 1957, Foster left a career in advertising in order to write. He was a regular in the Beat scene in Venice Beach, but had published very little when he died at forty-five in 1967.
